♥ be respectful.
♥ both a pairing/character AND a prompt/kink must be posted.
♥ one pairing/prompt per comment please.
♥ you are encouraged to try and write a prompt for every request you make.
♥ we are slash, femslash, het, three-and-moresomes etc. friendly. (we are even incest friendly what with some of our characters being twins and all...)
♥ no pairing bashing, OK? no need to wank over ships.
♥ long and short fics welcome. multiple responses encouraged!
♥ please try to refrain from saying 'seconded!' as much as possible.
♥ on RPF: Please disclaim that it is RPF, a work of fiction and in no way related to the actual actors/persons/etc. (i wouldn't even try and discourage RPF from this meme ;))
♥ WARN FOR COMMON TRIGGERS, PLEASE

♥ Please do not repost prompts from earlier rounds
♥ put [GEN] before GEN prompts.

♥ fills can be posted anonymously or not.
♥ fills can be anything: fic, art, vid, fanmix, podfic, etc.
♥ all prompts are open to fills at all times, even if they have been filled in the past or are being currently filled by someone else. multiple fills are positively encouraged; if something appeals to you then do not be put off creating a new fill by the existence of a prior one.
NEW: ♥ PLEASE comment with the first of your fill to the PROMPT and then all future updates as a comment to the FIRST PART of the fill. this makes it easier for both the WIP spreadhseet and for archiving stuff on delicious. it also helps people who are trying to catch up on updates and don't have to look through every fill on the prompt (should it have more than one). thank you.

It's finally time for part 10, it's been a few months but even after the article of doom, we're still open.

Eduardo/Mark - soulmate devices

(Anonymous)
I've been reading 'soulmate finder' fics at the moment, so I want one for the TSN 'verse! Something like technology comes along that helps you/tells you who your soulmate is. Perhaps there is even a Facebook app to help you...whatever. It is the latest fad, and billions are getting them.

Except Mark, who thinks it is (or at least, says that) ridiculous. And probably Eduardo, who *knows* what his will say (maybe Mark knows this too). But they get prodded with lots of sticks and end up getting them. And there is angst, because what is TSN without angst, eh?

Sounds similar to the timer fic, I know. But SOULMATE FICS ARE WONDERFUL, rite?

Re: Eduardo/Mark - soulmate devices

He was never going to get one. They're a fad. There's no real proof they're effective, not when they've only been in circulation a few years and there are no conclusive studies to be had. Sure, everyone insists they're accurate, because most old married couples who get them find their spouse's name appearing on the screen, but there's no proof it isn't rigged. It might be arbitrary, and it's definitely a little fishy, and people have begun to allow them to dictate their decisions in a way that's downright unhealthy.

Unfortunately, his mother doesn't share his opinions on them, and she's getting just the slightest bit antsy for grandchildren, even if she swears that's not her motivation, and Eduardo is not all that surprised when he's given one for his twenty-eighth birthday.

He smiles and thanks her and leaves the box unopened on the top shelf of his pantry, which is where it migrated after his housekeeper came in and finally put it away. It stays there for three months.

In the meantime, Eduardo loses two assistants in short order because they both, shortly after earning their first paychecks, buy the newest Soulmate Locator™ and seem to disappear off the face of the planet as they run off into their happily-ever-afters with their newly Located Soulmate. It's possible Eduardo is more than a little bitter about this, and he seriously starts to consider that he may pay his assistants too much. Docking their paychecks just enough they can't afford a five thousand dollar glorified watch wouldn't be too excessive, he thinks.

In the end, though, he hires a nice forty-five year old woman named Noe who's been happily married for twenty years and thinks Soulmate, Inc. is full of shit. They get along happily for another three months.

And then, in a move that Eduardo will later think he should've predicted, Mark ruins it all.

Noe always leaves the news running on the office sound system, because she thinks it's nice to keep current and, in the process, possibly educate anyone who wanders through. In the course of the average day, that is perhaps one person, since Eduardo's business is mostly conducted either out-of-office or through voice or video calls, but it's still a nice sentiment.

Today, it's been muted in his office for the last two hours, but he finally gets off the conference call half an hour later than scheduled. He turns the volume back up, just in time to catch the announcer's introduction of —erberg.

It's not a habit he's proud of, but he almost always listens when Mark comes up on the news, so he turns it up.

Part 2/? - Eduardo/Mark - soulmate devices

(Anonymous)
"Facebook has launched their collaborative app with Soulmate, Incorporated. Now everyone with a Soulmate Locator wristband can log onto Facebook and share, upload and search on any information their device gives them. How do you think this app will work from a practical standpoint?"

"It's essentially what everyone is doing already,"
Mark's voice says, dry and bored. "We've just taken the entire process and automated it. Now, instead of manually searching Facebook and sending friend requests in the hopes their so-called Soulmate will accept, the app uploads the data automatically and authenticates for the receptive person that the claim is an official one from Soulmate, Incorporated channels. The default setting allows an automatic friendship acceptance as well, though this setting can be turned off."

"So you think this will help a lot of people?"

"It'll help anyone who's been unable to contact their so-called Soulmate so far, as long as they're both on Facebook."

"You keep saying so-called. Do you not believe in the Soulmate Locator devices?"

"No,"
Mark says, and Eduardo can imagine his expression. He wonders who roped Mark into allowing this app onto Facebook in the first place. "I don't see there's any real evidence they work. They're a new technology and they're popular, but I have no interest in them."

"So no Soulmate for you, Mr. Zuckerberg?
The announcer's voice is teasing, almost flirty.

"No. It would take a lot more proof to make me a proponent of them, Mark says, and the interview concludes.

Eduardo turns the volume back down. He can't get it out of his head the rest of the day – No Soulmate for you? No.

That night he takes the box out of his pantry and goes through the laborious process of setting it up. It takes almost two hours as it demands every detail of his identity and a lengthy update process with the Soulmate, Inc. databases. When it finally makes a happy chime, a small series of notes like bells, it's past eleven in the evening and Eduardo is well on his way to drunk, pathetic and alone on his couch.

He puts the wristband on, watches it light up with another several seriously grating noises, and boots the black screen set in to the smooth platinum of the wristband. It finishes loading, flashes his own information, and then processes for a split second before it displays:

Soulmate™ Status: Identified
ID: Unknown
Name: Mark Zuckerberg

Eduardo nods at it resignedly and goes back to finishing off the bottle of gin.

Part 3/? - Eduardo/Mark - soulmate devices

(Anonymous)
Mark doesn't want to go to this business dinner. He never wants to go to them, of course, but this one in particular is going to be terrible. All anyone talks about is the stupid Soulmate app, like that's become the be-all, end-all of Facebook – or, even further, of all human interaction in any form – and he's fucking tired of talking to old men who justify their mistresses as their Soulmates and their wives as mistakes.

Despite all claims to the contrary, Mark has only seen these wristbands make people's relationships worse. Chris and his fiancé are a fluke.

He yawns and finishes buttoning up his shirt, leaving the bow tie undone for now. He does the buttons on his sleeves and shrugs into his jacket. He's careful to smooth both jacket and shirt cuff over his own wristband, warm and silent on his arm. The cufflinks make a tiny, very muffled clink as they tap against the wristband through the material of the shirt, but not enough anyone would notice.

Mark surveys himself in the mirror, determines he's good enough, and heads down to the hotel's ballroom.

He's accosted almost as soon as he enters and spends the next forty-five minutes unable to escape a conversation about possible future functionality that people want the Soulmate app to have. Some of the information they seem to want displayed on their Facebook page is frankly boggling to Mark.

Eduardo is there, of course, and Mark locates him almost as soon as he enters the room. His wristband tries to warm, one of the many silent signals it gives in presence of the wearer's Soulmate. Mark shakes his arm a little and ignores it.

He escapes the repetitively dull conversations a few hours later by hiding in the bathroom. There's only so long he can keep refuge here, but he washes and rewashes his hands, then washes his face before washing his hands again. It's only because the skin is drying out that he stops, surrendering to the inevitable and drying his hands so he can go back out.

He's just thrown the towel away but his sleeves are still pushed up to his elbow, and that of course is when Eduardo walks in.

They're more than capable of interacting civilly, so when Eduardo looks at him neutrally Mark looks just as blandly back. His arms feel vulnerable, though, and he feels his hands twitch at his sides as he fights the urge to bury them in his pockets.

That draws Eduardo's gaze to his wristband. The surprise registers on his face, muted, and Mark knows Eduardo must be really shocked.

"Dustin?" Eduardo guesses. "Or your mother?"

"Promotional," Mark answers. He lifts his arm up and looks at it disinterestedly. "They gave everyone at Facebook one after we launched the app."

Eduardo nods understandingly. Mark thinks he knows that's bullshit. Even if it were true, that wouldn't explain why Mark would wear it, and even less why he'd hide it instead of wearing the carefully-designed sleeves with the slides on the inside of the wrist through which the screen can be displayed.

"You?" Mark asks him. He's dropped his arm, tugging his sleeve back down and buttoning it carefully.

"Mother," Eduardo says. "She wants grandchildren."

Mark doesn't return Eduardo's smile. "Any luck?" he asks.

"It says unidentified," Eduardo lies. "That's supposedly been happening less and less lately, but it looks like I either don't have one or they're completely out of the range of Soulmate, Inc's satellites."

"That's not how it works, you know," Mark says. "People don't have identifying chips in them, and especially not ones that would allow satellites to determine enough information to pick up on some sort of spiritual or emotional connection between people."

"I know," Eduardo says mildly. "I don't think they work at all."

Mark takes a step back toward the door. "Good," he says. "I don't think they do, either."

OP!
