i know you guys are enjoying this meme and i appreciate that but please can you put the SUBJECT HEADER on your prompt. you would REALLY be helping me out if you could do that. it just saves time for me when i'm trying to tag everything in delicious.

AND PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT repost prompts from parts one, two or three over here again. the delicious is around for people to find prompts they may not have already seen.

FILL: call to me with words i never knew (61/?)

a/n: yiddish AND portuguese? call to me with words i never knew: international edition

He takes a deep breath and sets his jaw.

"Just tell him that Mark called," he says, "and that I don't only want him at my company because he's qualified and bright and motivated and experienced and – and the best person I could ask for, and it's not only because I want him to stay in California that I'm asking him, I'm, I'm, I'm in love with him, and I…want him to be happy." He swallows. "That's it."

He's winded at the end of it. He half expects her to have hung up. He said what he meant, and he knows under the thin sheen of embarrassment that it was what he needed to say, like it had been fighting to take shape and get out of him all this time. But it's a little bit ludicrous to expect that Eduardo's mom wrote that shit down or whatever. Mark actually winces at the thought. He feels foolish and he hates it.

But she speaks, finally, out of the static silence that's fallen.

"I'll tell him, querido." Her voice is thick and tremulous. Mark doesn't know what to do.

"Thanks," he says awkwardly after a moment. "I…appreciate it."

"Of course," she says. And then after a moment, a kvelling rush like his own mom always has, like she can't help herself, "I knew that you'd be good for him. When Wardinho talks about you, I know it."

Mark opens his mouth with no idea what he can say. He wants to tell her how he's pretty sure it's Eduardo who's made him this way, who turned him into someone capable of saying things like I'm in love with him and I just want him to be happy out loud – that she might even have her own parenting to thank, in the grand scheme of things. But she saves him the trouble.

"Doesn't he know it already, what you just told me?" she asks.

His breath catches in his throat, and when he's able to speak his voice comes out tight. "I'd like to think so."

"Do you tell him?"

Mark bites his lip.

"You can never be sure," he says.

"I think he does," she says firmly. He closes his eyes. "But I'll tell him, Mark."

"Okay." His voice comes out tiny.

"Good night, honey."

"Good night, Mrs. Saverin."

So polite. His mother would be proud.

It's only after he hangs up that he lets it sink in, what just happened. He really doesn't want to think too hard about any of it, to be honest – Eduardo talking about him to his mom, or what that makes them, or what she said. Or what he said, for that matter.

He pulls up the code for a redesign that's been keeping them all pretty busy lately and works on it until his laptop battery is critical, and then he moves to the living room and plugs in and keeps working until two a.m.

Eduardo doesn't call him back. But it's fine. It must be fine – Mark's trying so hard not to let it make his stomach churn. Because he's done everything he can possibly do now. He doesn't have the vocabulary to do more – which is saying something – or the emotional stamina, which is saying slightly less, but still. For every time he's thought that the ball is in Eduardo's court now, this time that's for real.

Tomorrow they'll see. Mark keeps telling himself this, as he falls in and out of sleep until about eight a.m., gets back up, showers, dresses, eats something – he thinks of Eduardo as he stands in the kitchen and something twinges inside him, even as it makes his chest feel warm, too – and drives to work. He feels like he's wearing blinders, on the sides and farther in front, to just before later today when he'll have to go to the airport. He's more than ready for this to get resolved, but he's not entirely sure he's prepared to hear what Eduardo has to say.

Re: FILL: call to me with words i never knew (61/?)

I just want to hug Eduardo's mum SO MUCH! You just know she'll be giving him all the advice when she tells him. ALL THE ROMANTIC ADVICE!! <3

Gracias. <3

Just trying to add to the international flavour. ;)

Re: FILL: call to me with words i never knew (61/?)

This fill continues to overall warm and I love reading reading so much.

Mark's so cute, in love and desperate for Wardo to come home. It's sweet. The phone encounter with Wardo's mom is great too who is also sweet and motherly; she approves and calls him pet names <3
