[RPF] Andrew/Jesse

Fic based on this quote:

CONAN: As a kid you were kinda a homebody. You didn’t like to stray far from home.
JESSE: I didn’t like to stray from the bedroom. I had terrible, terrible, and i still do. I have terrible separation anxiety. So much so that when i was in first grade i cried everyday, really without exception, everyday. So much so that the bus driver every Friday if i didn’t cry everyday that week would give everyone candy, on Friday.
CONAN: The bus driver told everyone “you all get candy” if Jesse doesn’t cry the entire week?
JESSE: Yeah, so every Friday you would hear from like two blocks away everybody chanting on the bus “Don’t cry Jesse! Don’t cry Jesse!” And thats how we knew the bus was coming.

Andrew is that kid that tells Jesse not to cry, he basically holds his hand every time they ride the bus, are BFFs forever, playmates, etc, and swears his ~pure~ love to him forever.

-"I am going to marry you some day and make you my wife!"

[FILLED] my sweet honey bee 1/

Why did I fill my own prompt, lmfao. SOMEONE FILL THIS TOO D:

Jesse hates school. He hates being away from his mom and her warm comforting smell. He hates always having to look out the window as the bus drives off and his mom waves at him from the curb, mouthing see you in the afternoon, be a good boy now and make mommy proud. He never knows what to do without her. At home, Jesse would curl up on the couch and listen to the sounds she made as she went about her daily routine, folding laundry that smelled like freshly cut grass or making lunch in the kitchen. The house too, with its creaking floorboards and the hum of the fridge, the squeaking hinges, comforted Jesse and made the ball of worry in his stomach unknot.

Jesse hates leaving home.

Andrew is Jesse’s neighbor. He talks funny English and wears a Spiderman wristwatch and says things like, “One day I am going to marry you,” and “Don’t cry Jesse. School is fun!”

Andrew is kind of weird in that he wants to marry Jesse, which Jesse’s mom says is completely acceptable despite the both of them being both boys. Jesse’s mom says, too, that Andrew will probably grow out of it, like a phase, the way Jesse will grow out of his bad hair some day and his general dislike of school. Andrew had his Pirate phase, wherein he’d go to school dressed as a Pirate with an eyepatch and a hat and a plastic sword strapped to his hip. Once, he’d even taken Jesse hostage by the monkey bars and threatened to throw him into the brig if he didn’t agree to be Andrew’s pirate wife. But no one went to save Jesse anyway, in the end, which was a tad disappointing and depressing, so Andrew made him his first mate instead and gave him access to the captain’s cabin.

Before the bus arrives, Andrew stands next to Jesse on the curb and holds his hand. Jesse’s chin wobbles even though he tries his best to reign in his tears. He wants to be brave, for his mom, for himself, but the tears slide down his face anyway and his chest heaves in a shuddery breath.

“Don’t cry Jesse,” Andrew saws, squeezing his hand. He peers into Jesse’s face and wipes Jesse’s cheeks against the sleeve of his shirt. “Don’t cry. I’ll take good care of you, I promise.”

“You’re not my mom,” Jesse says and he hiccups and cries harder, avoiding Andrew’s shirstsleeve which he keeps rubbing against Jesse’s face. Andrew stares at him, then, blinking, and then wraps his arms around Jesse’s middle. Andrew smells like milk.

“What are you doing?” Jesse whines. “Let go, Andrew!” He tries to wriggle out of Andrew’s grasp but Andrew’s taller and his arms are flung tight around his back. His chin is pressed firmly against the top of Jesse’s head. Andrew is soft despite being tall and thin, and his shoulders feel comfortable against Jesse’s cheek.

“My mom always hugs me when I’m sad,” Andrew says to him. “She doesn’t let go of me until I feel much better.” He ruffles the top of Jesse’s head with a hand. “Do you feel okay now?”

“No,” Jesse says and slumps forward. Andrew keeps on hugging him and Jesse wiggles again but that only makes Andrew hug him tighter.

“Okay,” Andrew says. He rubs Jesse’s back. “I’ll keep on hugging you then.”

Jesse looks up at him. “What if the bus arrives, will you keep hugging me then?”

“Yep,” Andrew confirms. He steps back, tilts his head to the side and wipes the corner of Jesse’s cheek with the hem of his shirt before beaming. “There. You’ve stopped crying now. You’re all right.” His laugh is what sets Jesse off crying again and Jesse stops only when Andrew grabs him by the shoulders and kisses him on the mouth. Jesse quiets down and blinks at him. Andrew tastes weird and wet like cereal and orange juice.

“Hmph,” Jesse says. “I’ll tell my mom you kissed me again.”

Andrew flails, turning violently red. “What! Jesse! I thought you promised it’d be our secret!”

Re: [FILLED] my sweet honey bee 2/2

“I don’t like it when you kiss me,” Jesse says, just to be difficult. He rubs a fist into his eye furiously, wiping away the tears. He doesn’t want the other kids to call him a crybaby, it’s bad enough that no one wants to be his friend.

“Then I won’t kiss you then,” Andrew says. He stomps and huffs, crossing his arms, doesn’t look at Jesse except to glance at him to check for a reaction.

Jesse sniffs. He gets these fits of sadness sometimes when he thinks too much. His eyes well up, his lip trembles. The thought of Andrew not kissing him again, never hugging him, is somehow as sad as not being able to see his mom all afternoon.

Andrew looks horrified, jumps back. “What! What is it? Why are you crying again?”

“Because you’re being mean to me!” Jesse yells.

“What!” Andrew says. “What!” But he hugs Jesse again and squeezes him, in pulses, before moving back enough so that he can kiss Jesse’s mouth. He kisses Jesse four times in rapid succession, loud smooching noises that make Jesse’s lips curl, his shoulders sag. Andrew nuzzles his cheek and sways Jesse in his arms.

“Jesse,” Andrew sighs, his breath warm against Jesse’s ear, “You’re kind of, um, weird.”

“Mom says weird is good,” Jesse says, suddenly defensive.

“It is,” Andrew laughs and pushes their faces together. Their noses rub. “That’s why one day, when I get older and richer, I’m going to marry you and make you my wife.”

Jesse pouts. “Why am I always the wife?”

“Because you cry a lot,” Andrew says.

Jesse supposes this is true and lets Andrew hug him until the bus arrives.

He thinks about it all afternoon though and even dreams about it during naptime - marrying Andrew and watching him read the morning paper in the kitchen, sitting next to him on the couch with the TV turned on. They’ll have lots of cats and live in a nice house with a front porch and a wide backyard. And they’ll have to sleep in the same bed, like other married people, like Jesse’s mom and dad, side by side and sharing the same blanket. Jesse wonders if they can sleep in bunk beds instead, Jesse on the top bunk, Andrew, with his comforting noises, stirring below him.

what even is this. first thing i do in the morning is write fic. >_>

Re: [FILLED] my sweet honey bee 2/2

2nd FILL: Would You Wait, for Me? - 1/2

pidgeoned, I don't know if this is at all what you wanted in response to the prompt, but when I saw you filled your own prompt this is what came to me...
this does not represent the real people, by any means

“I am going to marry you some day and make you my wife!” Its the first thing the skinny, doe-eyed transfer student says to Jesse. Right before he promptly takes Jesse's hand in his own, swinging his arm so their clasped hands are swing beside their hips.

Jesse is nine and his throat goes as dry as a desert, as if he has been licking salt. His hand is already clammy within the new boy's grasp and Jesse just want to say, “I don't know you!” but he can't get the words out. And oh!god, he' s going to cry. He can feel the itch behind his eyes and it just makes Jesse turn a deeper red. It makes the itch more persistent, the urge to cry nearly overwhelming.

Overwhelming like this new boy.

“Hey,” the new boy says. He stills in the act of pulling Jesse's arm loose with the back-and-forth motion. Instead, he squeezes Jesse's hand tighter.

“Hey, don't cry.”

Jesse is amazed that the new boy's eyes manage to go impossibly larger as he leans in toward Jesse. Jesse flinches back instinctively, trying to tug his hand free so he can use it to cover his face. But the new boy doesn't let go. And he doesn't seem upset by Jesse's very large flinch. He's smiling, and he opening his mouth to say more words, and all Jesse wants to do is find a magical way to get back to his bedroom right.this.moment. Because he wants to hide. From this boy with big brown eyes.

“Please don't cry,” the boy tries again. “What sort of husband would I be if I make my future Mrs. Garfield cry?”

Jesse can't help it when he hiccups wetly.

“Can you let go of my hand?” Jesse asks, finally, when he can breath again and his teeth aren't chattering with nerves. The boy does, albeit reluctantly, and when the grips gone Jesse almost misses it. Except the new boy doesn't go far, rather he plasters himself to Jesse's side it seems, so Jesse doesn't have time to miss the touch.

The bus pulls up about then and the kids that live in Jesse's neighborhood move to line-up. Jesse breathes out shakily, he is so close to being back at home. He can make it the short distance back, he tells himself, because this is the return trip. It's not so bad. No need to cry.

“Hey,” the boy calls from just behind Jesse's ear. His voice is softer now, like he's nervous. “Can I sit with you on the bus?”

Re: 2nd FILL: Would You Wait, for Me? - 2/2

“Andrew,” Jesse says. At the end of the name his voice lilts up, turning it into a question. A call. And Andrew turns from the window with a huge grin on his face like someone talking to you is the best part of your day. Jesse doesn't understand it, but then again, he's not ten like Andrew. Maybe its something that everybody likes once they turn double digits. Jesse almost shrugs at his own thought process.

“Why do you want to marry me?” Jesse stutters every consonant within the sentence. He hunches his shoulders as the tips of his ears burn in embarrassment.

Andrew doesn't seem to notice. He just smiles and tilts his head. Then he speaks, as if the answer is the most obvious thing in the world.

“Because you're lovely.”

Jesse frowns scrunching his nose. He doesn't understand. Three days of knowing Andrew and it seems as though the older boy is always going to be a mystery. Jesse thinks it has to do with being double digits, he'll understand after his birthday, maybe. Unless its because Andrew is half-British. In which case Jesse will never understand.

“And me mum says you should marry the lovely ones.”
Jesse feels the itch behind his eyes again and raises his fists to rub at his eyes.

“Oh no! Jess, I'm sorry. Did I say something wrong?”

When Jesse looks up Andrew looks very cartoonish, eyes wide like saucers and mouth agape as he tries to apologize. It makes Jesse want to laugh and, maybe, hold Andrew's hand.

(Jesse doesn't mind the idea of marrying Andrew some day all that much).

3rd FILL: so damned happy - Jesse/Andrew - 1/5 (COMPLETE)

I don't even know how this happened. Highschool/College/The-rest-of-their-lives AU.

"So what about you, Andreeeew," Emma drags the name out, like she always does when she's been drinking. "Do you ever want to get married?"

"I'm gonna marry Jesse," Andrew says, yawning, as if it's no big deal.

Jesse kicks his thigh, flushing slightly. "You've been saying that since first grade," he points out.

"So?" Andrew looks like the picture of innocence with his big stupid eyes. "It's still true."

Jesse blushes some more and carefully pulls his foot back from Andrew's thigh. Andrew curls his hand around Jesse's ankle and puts it back. Emma watches them from the floor and Jesse's pretty sure he doesn't like the look on her face at all.

"I think he means it, you know," Emma says the next day, leaning against Jesse's locker.

"Don't be ridiculous," Jesse mutters, shoving her aside. "It's like the world's longest running joke."

"Mhmmm," she says thoughtfully.

There's a picture of Jesse wearing a dress in the school paper. The picture if from the school play. The caption underneath it reads: "The future Mrs. Garfield."

"You're abusing your powers," Jesse says during lunch, dropping the paper on Andrew's tray.

Andrew tilts his head back and grins at him. "Why do I think I wanted to be editor of the school paper?" he asks.

"Because you want to be a journalist when you grow up?" Jesse suggests.

Andrew snorts, putting the paper aside. "To have one more way to flirt with you," he says, then he sighs. "I'm looking into how much it would cost to rent a plane."

"What would you do with a plane?" Jesse asks.

Emma kicks him under the table.

"How do you feel about blue?" Andrew asks.

He's spread out over Jesse's bed with a book open on his chest. Presumably they're studying for an English test, but most of the time they just talk.

"I have many feelings about blue," Jesse answers. He's a big fan of not answering questions until he knows what they're really about. The last time he answered a random question from Andrew he ended up being his date for prom.
"For your corsage," Andrew clarifies.

"You're not getting me a corsage," Jesse says, with what he hopes is finality.

Andrew just smiles and Jesse's heart beats a little funny.

Of course Andrew got him a corsage and Jesse's mom makes them pose for pictures on the stairs and looks all teary-eyed when she hugs them goodbye. Jesse notices later that she snuck a string of condoms into his suit jacket and one of these days he really has to have a talk with his mom.

Re: 3rd FILL: so damned happy - Jesse/Andrew - 2/4 (COMPLETE)

Andrew is elected prom king which was pretty much a given. Jesse watches from the punch table as Andrew parades the prom queen, Elisa Williams, around the dance floor (all easy grace and big smiles), and thumbs the package of condoms in his pocket.

He wonders if Andrew's going to take someone to the lake afterwards, he's heard that's what the cool people do. Maybe Jesse should give him the condoms; Jesse doesn't plan on losing his virginity until second year of college.

"Mope more why don't you?" Emma says, sticking a glass of punch into Jesse's hand.

"I already have a glass," Jesse says, gesturing to the half empty blue cup he put down on the table.

"That one's better," she says with smirk.

Of course Emma spiked the punch, of course she did.

"Let's go to the lake," Andrew says, fingers tangled with Jesse's.

"Okay," Jesse agrees. He's a little buzzed and everything feels good and the stars are spinning so brightly.

"You're drunk," Andrew says, and he sounds a little disappointed.

"You're beautiful," Jesse retorts and it doesn't quite have the scathing edge he was going for.

Andrew's eyes soften and his mouth pulls into a smile. "So are you," he murmurs.

The sit down on the wooden pier, pants rolled up and shoes discarded, dangling their bare feet into the cold water.

"Jesse," Andrew says, still holding his hand. "I'm in love with you."

"Oh." Jesse turns his head to look at Andrew and Andrew kisses him. It's a bit off kilter and a little too dry, but Jesse's toes still curls in the water.

Jesse loses his virginity two years ahead of time, the first night at college, with Andrew braced above him flushed, and sweaty, and smiling, and so beautiful Jesse doesn't even remember how to breathe.

Second year of college Jesse comes down with a bad case of the flu. He shivers and shakes and throws up and trails snot like a snail wherever he goes. He keeps the entire building up at night with his cough and he takes so much NyQuil he's in a constant daze.

"I'm disgusting," he moans, curled up on the couch with his head in Andrew's lap. There's snot on Andrew's pants, his favorite pair of obnoxious red ones, and Jesse just coughed soup all over his shirt. "You're going to break up with me."

Andrew gently threads his fingers through Jesse's damp curls, brushing his wrist over Jesse's forehead.

"Marry me," he says.

Jesse chokes up and it's not just the snot this time. "Okay," he croaks. If Andrew takes it back later he can always blame his answer on the NyQuil.

"I'm not going to take it back," Andrew says patiently, bending down to brush his lips against Jesse's sweaty temple. "I love you."

Re: 3rd FILL: so damned happy - Jesse/Andrew - 3/4 (COMPLETE)

Two days later Andrew's sick and Jesse's freaking out.

"You survived," Andrew points out. He's curled up on the bathroom floor with his forehead resting against the toilet seat.

Jesse hovers in the doorway, phone clutched in his hand, unable to decide if he should call 911, or his mom.

"Just come here and hold me," Andrew murmurs, sounding hoarse and infinitely small.

"I bet you regret proposing to me now," Jesse whispers, when they're curled up together on the bathroom floor, surrounded by blankets and pillows.

"Not in the slightest," Andrew slurs, pushing his face further into Jesse's neck.

"If you contaminate me again I might regret saying yes," Jesse confesses, staring up at the cracked ceiling.

"No you won't," Andrew whispers.

Jesse sighs, and stares the underside of the sink, a sight he hoped he would never have to see again. "No, I won't," he agrees.

They get married two weeks after graduating college. It's a simple affair, just the two of them, their closest family, and, of course, Emma.

Andrew holds both Jesse's hands tight and looks straight into Jesse's eyes as he says his vows.

"I was seven years old when I decided that I was going to marry you," he starts. It earns him a few chuckles from the gathered audience. "And if I'd had to, I would have waited another twenty. Not a lot of people can say there's only ever been one person for them, but I can, and it's you Jesse. You are the only one for me. You've always been the only one for me and I love you so very much."

Jesse tears up, of course he does, eyes blurry and hands trembling as Andrew slides the wide gold band onto his finger. l love you, Andrew mouths, squeezing his fingers, and Jesse takes a deep breath.

"The very first time I met you, you held my hand and said you were going to marry me," he says, voice coming out a hoarse choked croak. "But it took me ten years to realize I could actually have you. I'm… uh… sorry I kept you waiting, Andrew, and I swear… uh… hope… that you'll never have to wait for me to catch up again. I love you… I love you so very very much and I'm so happy I get to spend the rest of my life with you because I… I can't imagine… I can't…" He sucks in a deep breath, blinking at Andrew through his tears. "I can't imagine a life without you in it."

He fumbles with the ring, hands sweaty and shaking, but somehow he manages to fit it onto Andrew's finger. Andrew pulls him closer into a hard tight hug and Jesse doesn't care if it's against the protocol, pressing his wet cheek against Andrew's, mixing their tears, as they're pronounced husband and husband.

Around them people shout Mazel Tow and someone brings out a glass for them to step on and Jesse is so happy he feels lightheaded with it.

"Finally," Andrew says, pulling Jesse into a long sweet kiss and Jesse laughs against his lips.

"Finally," he agrees, pressing his face into Andrew's neck and for one long moment it's just them, just this amazing amazing thing between them, and for the very first time Jesse lets himself believe that he actually deserves this, deserves Andrew and somewhere deep inside his heart something clicks into place.

Re: 3rd FILL: so damned happy - Jesse/Andrew - 4/4 (COMPLETE)

Jesse has a new tic; every ten minutes he rubs his thumb over his wedding ring. He does it unconsciously, mostly, and sometimes he catches Andrew watching his hands with a fond smile on his lips, like now.

"You do that when you sleep too," Andrew says. His smile crinkles the corners of his eyes. "I think it's cute."

Jesse smiles too, he probably looks like a dork. "Good thing you married me then," he says.

"Mhmmm," Andrew says, leaning over to kiss him. "Want to relive our wedding night?"

"Again?" Jesse teases, but he's already pulling Andrew on top of him.

Andrew's due home in fifteen minutes from a business trip to Detroit and Jesse is freaking out. The reason for his freak out is sitting calmly in the middle of the floor, licking at a front paw.

"He's going to divorce us," Jesse tells the cat. "And then it'll just be you and me, and Picasso, and Leonardo, and Pinto, and my broken tattered heart. I promised him, you know, I promised he wouldn't come home to another cat. It's all your fault."

He points a shaky finger at the cat, it swipes its paw over its ear and then settles down to rest in the strip of sunlight falling in across the floor. It's orange and copiously fat.

"I'm doomed," Jesse croaks, folding forward to hide his head into his hands.

Someone laughs and Jesse jerks his head up to find Andrew standing in the doorway, still in his jacket.

"So what did you name this one?" he asks.

"Garfield," Jesse sighs.

Andrew laughs again and shakes his head, but he makes come here motions with his hands so Jesse thinks that maybe he's not getting divorced today.

"I'm serious though," Andrew says, after giving Jesse a long thorough kiss that tastes like the chicken he must have eaten on the plane. "No more cats. If you adopt more cats we're going to need a bigger house."

"Okay," Jesse promises, hiding his face into Andrew's neck. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Jesse rubs his thumb over his wedding ring and breathes Andrew in. It's been two years since they got married, but he still feels exactly the same. So. Damned. Happy.

-The End-
