GENERAL RULES;

IMPORTANT: please DO NOT post prompts about any non-public people as part of a prompt. for example: randi zuckerberg is fine as she is a public figure both on the internet and on facebook itself. priscilla chan is NOT as she is not a public figure.

Mark/Eduardo or Mark/someone else, BDSMverse

Sorry if this has been prompted already, I'm looking for fic based on Xanthe's General and Dr Sheppard or Helenish's Take Clothes Off As Directed, where instead of defining people by their gender, society defines people by whether they're dominant, submissive or a switch. The former story is more of a fantasy, the latter is about how societal prejudice would function in such a world. I'd love to read a TSN story based on either version. I'm particularly interested in defiant, submissive Mark, showing the world that sub or not, he's still CEO, bitch, but I'll read anything in this verse.

Eduardo isn't uptight. He's really not. His parents warned him about college. He really was prepared for this.

He's not uncomfortable with the way Dustin is kind of a slut, going home with a new top every week, and he's not weirded out by the way Chris only seems to sleeps with men, and he's definitely not confused by Mark, who barely seems to notice his body enough to let it get sleep most nights much less notice whether or not a top wants to tie him up and fuck him.

It's just that Eduardo was brought up a particular way, and all of this stuff is just kind of, a little, different.

"My parents were just very traditional," he says to Dustin one night when he's getting drunk in the Kirkland suite (he's getting drunk in front of subs and his father would be giving him lectures about proper toppy behavior right now). "It's kind of hard to, you know..."

"So how scandalized would you be on a scale from one to ten if I were to take off my shirt right now?" Dustin says, lifting up a corner of his t-shirt. Dustin's always kind of like that, a cheerful drunk, easy-going and friendly in a way that all the shier tops seem to fall for. Eduardo would be lying if he didn't see the appeal.

"No one needs to see that," Mark says, wincing. He's nursing his drink and sulking after some unspecified slight, not that Eduardo knows what that's about. Mark is more of an angry drunk than anything else, but that might just be that Mark gets drunk when he's angry. When Mark isn't angry before getting drunk, he's usually kind of mellow. That's usually pretty strange, because otherwise, Mark isn't mellow about anything.

"But I wanted to show off my new bruises," Dustin says, sulking.

Eduardo really, really shouldn't be looking at Dustin's bruises. Dustin isn't collared right now, but another top put those bruises on his body, and that-- that's personal. Eduardo knows better than to look at another top's bruises.

Chris says, "Stop bragging about it. It's not as easy for everyone else to get laid." Eduardo's pretty sure Chris is a top, but it seemed really impolite to ask about it on top of his monosexuality, so Eduardo hasn't ever made an attempt.

"Why are we even talking about Dustin's sex life again?" Mark asks. He tilts his head back. Eduardo gets a good look at his neck. "Didn't we have this conversation last week?"

"It's because you don't have one, dude," Dustin says, swatting Mark's knee with the same easy familiarity that all subs seem to have with one another. "If you found someone willing to put you on your knees and fuck you, maybe then we'd have something else to talk about."

"Fuck off," Mark says. As far as Eduardo knows, Mark hasn't been dating anyone. He's kind of weird for a sub, deliberately mean and standoffish. His clothes are all a size too large and he always has these dark bags underneath his eyes. Some of the other tops Eduardo knows are into that sort of thing, ("You're really friends with Zuckerberg? Doesn't he have a top who can make him wash his hair?"), but Eduardo has no idea what to make of it. His mother always told him that he shouldn't settle for anything but the very best kinds of subs, the ones who would be able to take care of him as well as themselves. She liked to set him up on dates with subs who spoke softly and had perfect posture when kneeling, who wore pretty clothes that flattered their figures and were too polite to bring up sex until Eduardo brought it up first.

Mark and Dustin aren't anything like them, but at least Dustin makes sense. He just wants to get laid and likes talking about getting laid. Eduardo has no idea what Mark wants.

Eduardo checks his watch. Midnight. He has a problem set due tomorrow, which probably means he should get out and get home. "I'm going to head out," Eduardo says. He manages to get to his feet without falling over. That's good. Eduardo likes that.

Dustin gives him a little wave. "Do you want to borrow my rape whistle?" he asks, "you know, just in case." They were giving those out to the subs during orientation, Eduardo knows, but he's never seen them used for anything but a cheap joke.

Eduardo rolls his eyes. "Later, you guys," he says.

A few weeks later, Mark stops hanging around the suite as much as usual.

"Girlfriend," Chris says when Eduardo shows up, looking confused. "She goes to BU or something." He's reading a book with one hand and eating chips with the other.

"Oh," Eduardo says. The door to Mark's room is closed, so he studies on the couch instead.

---

That's hardly the end of things. Mark still works in his room, and Eduardo still studies in Mark's room, but Mark is-- Mark is a sub. It had been a bit of a shock to see how much of a top Erica was, when Eduardo first met her. He would have thought that Mark would go for the easygoing tops, the ones who don't mind a bit of disobedience, who even enjoy it under the right circumstances. Erica looks like she would break you in half for even looking at her without permission. She's not particularly large or particularly intimidating personality-wise, but she says things like she expects to be obeyed, cool and in-control.

"What?" Mark says, when Eduardo asks him about Erica one afternoon. "Why is it so weird that I have a top?"

Eduardo says, "No, it's just--"

Mark rolls his eyes and turns back to his code, and it always makes Eduardo wonder how Mark can be so casual about the fact that he has a top sitting on his bed. If a sub sat on Eduardo's bed this often, he'd consider it an invitation. But Mark treats Eduardo the same way he treats Dustin or Chris or any of the other subs and tops that he runs into on a regular, with a faint air of superior boredom, like it's beneath him to give a shit about anyone other than himself. Erica hadn't been all that proprietary of Mark when they'd shown up together. She didn't make Mark get on his knees for her or serve her drinks or anything like that. She'd put a hand on his neck though, nothing too blatant, but enough that everyone would know.

Eduardo goes back to studying, lulled into focusing by the steady click-clack of Mark's typing. He doesn't know why he looks up, but he does. The sleeves of Mark's hoodie are riding up, exposing the rope burn around his wrists, bright red, normally hidden underneath the cuffs. Mark's stopped typing for the moment, staring at the code for a moment, still lost in thought. The long fingers of his left hand are circling his right wrist, rubbing at the raw skin like he likes it, like he wants to feel it again.

Eduardo only stares because it's so weird, seeing Mark as a someone who would enjoy it, as someone who would let a top tie him up, would let a top leave teethmarks on his collarbone. Mark's taking showers more often these days, but he still eats as horribly as he always does and Erica hasn't collared him yet. His neck is still bare. It makes Eduardo's fingers itch, but he doesn't know why.

---

Eduardo isn't sure how he ended up as friends with a bunch of subs either. He was doing things right: getting into AEPi and running the Harvard Investor's Club and getting good grades. He's made friends with the tops who are like him, ambitious and dedicated, the kind who will be running Fortune 500 companies and shaping the futures of various governments some day, the ones who will be millionaires by the age of 25.

When Erica dumps Mark, Mark writes bitchy blog posts all over his Livejournal, and Eduardo thinks that maybe Mark needs a friend. Eduardo shows up at the suite expecting-- well, he's not sure what to expect when subs get dumped. When Melissa, his closest friend in high school, would get dumped by one of her subs, she'd play Resident Evil until her fingers were numb and get drunk on her dad's stash of booze. The movies suggest that when subs are trying to recover from a breakup, there will be crying and ice cream and marking themselves so that they can remember what it felt like, no matter how much that doesn't sound like Mark.

Mark isn't crying when Eduardo shows up at the suite. He's in the middle of his newest project. Of course he is.

"I need the algorithm," he says, face blank, and Eduardo has to wonder if he hallucinated Mark's smile when Erica touched him, hallucinated the marks Erica left on the inside of his wrists.

Eduardo gives him the algorithm.

---

Mark gets a disciplinary hearing for the whole Facemash fiasco. Harvard is one of those places that doesn't do punishment in public anymore, claims that it's too ripe for abuse from irresponsible tops and bitter, spiteful subs.

Eduardo still waits for Mark to get out of it, because Mark is his friend, and Mark is Mark, so there's no way it went well. He squats with his back against a pillar, earbuds in place, trying not to think about Mark with his jeans around his knees, with his hands pressed hard against the edge of the desk. Mark probably has enough sense that he won't spit out curses while getting paddled by the administration, but Eduardo isn't entirely sure.

Mark walks out of discipline the same way he walked in, collected and cool. He makes a face as he goes down the steps, more annoyed than in genuine pain.

"How bad was it?" Eduardo asks. He stands up and tries not to think about the welts that must be on Mark's ass right now, red and fresh. The first time Eduardo saw a public discipline, he'd been five, and it had freaked him out a little. "It's important that subs understand that they did something wrong, that they demonstrate their penitence in public," his father had said at the time. Eduardo had listened.

"Twelve with a paddle, three with a belt," Mark says. He leans away when Eduardo leans closer.

"That bad?" Eduardo asks. That's more than a little excessive for what Mark did. Mark won't look at him, which could mean anything.

Mark shrugs. "They wanted to make an example out of me. I was joking about the thing on the window. Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor these days?" He walks stiffly, but he always walks stiffly, like he doesn't know how to make his body fit him. The only time Mark seems at ease is when he's on his computer, barely in his own head and body at all.

Dustin seems a little worried when they get back to the suite, pushy in a way that Eduardo isn't comfortable being. "Are you sure you're okay?" he asks. He's pushing Mark towards the bathroom where there's all sorts of ointments and pain killers and things that Dustin seems to get a lot of use out of. Traditionally, it's Mark's top who should be handling the aftercare, or even Mark's dominant parent if he doesn't have a top. Eduardo would volunteer himself, but it looks like Dustin's got a handle on things.

"I'll just-- I'll just wait out here," Eduardo says before Dustin can shut the bathroom door in his face.

untitled harvard fill 4a/?

Mark throws himself into the facebook the same way he throws himself into anything he cares about, which is to say, one-hundred-and-ten percent.

Eduardo likes watching Mark work on the facebook, likes the way Mark frowns, the way Mark smirks, the way Mark talks about it, with his hands and eyes and mouth. The suite fills up with white boards, print-outs of wireframes, scribbled control flow diagrams. Mark's room becomes such a disaster area, Eduardo barely has enough space to work there. He doesn't really understand where Mark sleeps -- whether or not Mark is even sleeping anymore.

Mark is so enraptured by it, so focused, that it makes Eduardo wonder if he's like that when-- Mark's doing other things. He wants to know what it's like to be the center of Mark's attention, wants to know if it's possible to make it so Mark won't be able to look away.

"I'm going to need a dedicated Linux box," Mark says when Eduardo shows up on evening. "I can put Apache and MySQL on it myself, but I'll need the--" He doesn't even spare Eduardo a second glance before he's disappearing into his room.

Eduardo finds himself grabbing Mark's hand, Mark's wrist without thinking about it. Mark freezes, looks down at where they're touching. Any sign that Erica had even been there is gone from his wrists, and Eduardo likes that. Eduardo really fucking likes that. "Okay," Eduardo says. "You should get it. You can get whatever you need." Mark is-- Mark is a sub, and Eduardo shouldn't be touching him while they're both unattached, but Mark is being amazing, and Eduardo can't quite stop himself.

Eduardo lets go, palms suddenly sweaty. Something flickers over Mark's expression, but Eduardo doesn't know what it is.

---

Eduardo waits outside the suite for Mark to show up. They had a nine o'clock meeting and it's already nine-thirty.

Mark stomps his ways up the steps, pushing past Eduardo into the suite. He doesn't look like he's angry, which is good. He's not bothering to acknowledge Eduardo's presence, which is bad.

"I thought we were meeting nine," Eduardo says, but Mark doesn't seem to hear him.

He's already at his computer, typing code faster than Eduardo can keep track of what he's doing. There's a light in his eyes, bright and eager, and Eduardo wants to know what puts it there, what causes it, whether or not there's an algorithm to determine the exact patterns of Mark's moods, because Eduardo hasn't figured them out yet, and he's not sure he's ever going to.

"Just one second," Mark says. He slaps the Enter key down with an air of finality. He switches his window so that the facebook is open on his screen.

"It looks good," Eduardo says, because it looks good. Eduardo doesn't understand it, not entirely, but it does look good to him, all clean lines and dark blues. Taking the entire experience of college and putting it online, Mark had said. It just might be true.

"That's it," Mark says. His breathing's picked up slightly. "It's live." He smiles, the barest curl of his lips. It's beautiful.

Eduardo kisses him.

It's not exactly proper protocol for this sort of thing, but Mark's never seemed to give a shit about protocol before. Mark goes still for a moment, and Eduardo thinks that maybe he's screwed this all up, that maybe he miscalculated and Mark doesn't want this the way Eduardo wants it and--

Mark bites down on Eduardo's lip, not hard enough to break skin, more like a tease. It stings, and Eduardo jerks back, eyes wide.

Mark's still smiling, but it's more of a smirk now, like the one he wore when he was building Facemash, smug and certain of himself. Eduardo feels tipped sideways, off-balance.

"Will you-- Would you like to sub for me?" Eduardo asks.

Mark half-shrugs. "Yeah," he says. He's still smiling and gripping a handful of Eduardo's shirt and Eduardo wants to see if he can wipe that expression from Mark's face, wants to know if he can make Mark desperate and begging and needy.

Eduardo stands up straight from where he's been leaning over, prying Mark's hand from his shirt. "Safeword?" he asks, because he knows this part. This part is at least familiar.

The facebook is a big hit almost as soon as they release it. They get 900 users in the first week. Mark seems to exult in it, but he doesn't let it stop him or slow him down. He obsesses over server logs, knee deep in the increasing amount of traffic.

After a while, people start coming up to Eduardo in class to tell him how much they love it.

"It's great," Tara says before Stats II starts, twisting around in her seat to talk to Eduardo. "Your boy does good work. Is he that good in the sack, too? Can I have a chance to find out?" It's sort of gone out of fashion amongst their generation to swap subs, because sub-rights groups claim that it's a byproduct from an outdated top-centric era, but people still do it. There are some subs who are really into it, though Eduardo has never had a conversation with one about it.

Eduardo feels his face heat up. People have assumed about him and Mark before, but this is the first time it's been true. "No," Eduardo says. "Just. No." The thought of sharing Mark, of letting other people see Mark when he's submitting, makes his blood run cold.

Tara just shrugs, not offended in the slightest. "No problem. But just let him know that it's really great. Everyone I know is talking about it."

---

There's this collar that Eduardo has, his father gave it to him before he left for Harvard, a family heirloom that belonged to Eduardo's dominant grandmother, worn leather with a gold plate embossed with the word "Saverin."

"I want you to only give it to a sub you really care about," his father had said before handing it over. "You shouldn't collar someone lightly. Collaring is one of the most important steps you will ever take in a relationship."

It's been sitting in Eduardo's luggage for years now. He wonders if he should dig it out, take another look at it.

One of the features of the facebook is to be able to set whether or not you've collared someone or you've been collared by someone else. It was the last thing Mark put in, Eduardo knows. It wasn't on any of the earlier versions of the site that he'd seen.

"Why didn't you think of it earlier?" Eduardo asks when Mark is looking through the statistics of how many people are using the feature at all, typing in incomprehensible text and frowning at the results he gets back. A good number, it seems.

Mark shrugs. "I don't care about who's collared and who's not," he says, "but Dustin thought that some people might want it."

"Am I right, or am I right?" Dustin says as he steps into Mark's room, tossing Eduardo a bottle of beer and cracking his own bottle open. Chris already has his own bottle, and is leaning back against the wall, looking vaguely bored with this conversation already.

"Shut up," Mark mutters. "It's not like you're waiting around for a top to collar you either."

"I'm totally right," Dustin says. He holds out a hand and Chris slaps it, smirking.

"Seriously, fuck off," Mark says. "I'm trying to get some work done here."

Eduardo leans closer. "What do you have against collaring?" he asks.

Mark shoots him an annoyed look that could be do we need to do this right here? as much as it could be do we we actually have to talk about this ever? "It's a stupid ritual whose express purpose is for subs and tops alike to show off the fact that they've somehow managed to convince someone else to fuck them on a regular basis," Mark says.

"Which is why it needs to be on the facebook," Dustin says. "Duh."

"Yeah," Chris says with a shrug. "I'm with Dustin on this one. You probably should have realized that from the beginning."

"You all suck," Mark says. He's hunched in front of his computer screen, wearing just a t-shirt today, no hoodie, and Eduardo stares at the back of his neck and thinks about what collar would look like against his skin.

untitled harvard fill 6a/?

Sean is half an hour late, which should be enough justification for why Eduardo hates him, but then when actually shows up, he leers at Mark, flirtatious and a little fucking creepy. He holds Mark's hand a few seconds too long. He smiles like he wants into Mark's baggy, ill-fitting pants. Eduardo finds himself clenching his fingers underneath the table.

"You must be Mark," Sean says as he settles into his chair, all fake grins and smarmy charm. The place he's chosen to meet them is new, sleek. The sort of place Eduardo goes to with his econ buddies. Sean is trying to impress them.

Mark nods, eyes slightly wider than normal, as he shakes Sean's hand. He's eager, Eduardo realizes. Eager for Sean's attention, looking sweet and almost shy. It makes Eduardo's skin crawl, and he grinds his teeth to keep his expression under control. At least Mark isn't blushing or ducking his head or saying anything flirtatious. Mark isn't like that. Mark doesn't need much to keep him happy.

Eduardo knows there are some subs who are looking for tops to take them home, collar and marry them so that they'll be cared for. With Eduardo, he knows his dad's money counts for a lot. He gets attention because of that, but Mark never seemed to give a shit about any of it. Mark isn't giving a shit about Eduardo's money right now.

"So tell me about the facebook," Sean says. He leans forward, not bothering to notice the way Eduardo's hand is on Mark's shoulder, as blatantly possessive as he can manage without annoying Mark.

The explanation spills out of Mark's mouth quick and eager, like it's been drawn out by Sean's command, and that makes Eduardo's jaw hurt from how hard he's gritting his teeth. Sean listens, asks questions, acts like he cares about what Mark's saying, though it's less of a conversation and more of a chance for Sean to monologue how great he is and how no one understands his genius.

Mark nods along, like he's interested, like he's bought into Sean's bullshit. He's talking strategy, Eduardo's strategy, like he wants Sean to pat him on the head and tell him he did good. There's the faintest hint of a smile on his face, one that's there because he likes talking to Sean. Eduardo tries not to play with his food too obviously.

And then Sean tells them to drop the "the," grinning as Mark nods in response, and Eduardo hates him so much he can barely even think.

----

"Palo Alto?" Eduardo says. "When the hell were you going to tell me this?" He's sitting, cross-legged, on Mark's bed trying to wrap his mind around the idea that Mark didn't tell him this earlier.

Mark shrugs. "You've got that internship thing." He's distracted by the climbing membership numbers, Eduardo can tell. Dustin's shouting them out every few minutes, giddy with excitement.

"Don't you think this is something I should have known about?" Eduardo asks. "I am your top, after all." He stands up, tries reading over Mark's shoulder. He's less angry about the fact that Mark decided that he needs to move across the country than the fact that he decided to move across the country because of Sean. Sean makes Mark obedient in ways that Mark has never been for Eduardo, and it makes Eduardo want to drag Mark into his bedroom and collar him before Sean can even look at Mark one more time.

Mark's forehead furrows slightly. "If I'd asked you, would you have said yes?"

"That's not the point," Eduardo says. "The point is that you didn't tell me." He puts a hand on Mark's shoulder, leaning in to remind himself that even though Mark won't let him collar him, Mark is his for the time being. Mark has been so busy, there are semi-permanent dark bags under his eyes. Even sex can barely stop or slow him down these days. He'll wear himself out one day, and Eduardo doesn't know how to stop him from doing that.

"Just, get on board with this," Mark says. He pulls away from Eduardo's hand so that if falls uselessly to Eduardo's side. He gives Eduardo an unreadable look.

When Mark calls, he's livid, every word bitten out like a curse.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he says. Eduardo can't see what he looks like, whether he's in the house or outside it, whether Sean is watching on. Eduardo is sitting on his bed in his apartment, staring out at the night sky, dotted with the oranges and yellows of the city.

Eduardo says, "I needed to get your attention. You're steering this company in the wrong direction." Mark isn't listening and Eduardo doesn't know how to get through. He's the CFO of Facebook, and he should have a say in the future of it.

"Do you realize how your actions have jeopardized this company? Do you realize how close you've come to destroying everything we've worked for?" Mark says, his voice flat and hard, and Eduardo closes his eyes, remembers what the vulnerable curve of Mark's neck looks like.

"I just--" Eduardo says. I just want him to stop looking at you. But he doesn't say that part. "I was angry, okay? I'm sorry."

There's a pause in the conversation. "Fine," Mark says. "I'm willing to let bygones be bygones, because I've got some good news."

"What?" Eduardo says. He thought that maybe-- but no, Mark is giving him good news. Mark's entire tone of voice has changed, turned into something lighter and happier, and Eduardo remembers days of sitting on Mark's bed, listening to Mark talk about servers and Javascript. He sounded like this, excited and having to hold it all in. Eduardo doesn't know how Mark can be so much easier to read over a phone line than in person, but he is. It's one of his charms.

Mark continues, "Peter Theil just made an angel investment of half a million dollars. They want to reincorporate the company, and they need your signature on some documents. You need to get on the first flight back out here. I need-- I need you to come out here."

Eduardo presses a hand to his face, tries to remember how to breathe. Mark is saying that he needs him, and Eduardo always wants to be something that Mark needs. "Okay," he says, barely louder than a whisper. He's sure Mark can hear him. "Okay."

---

The paperwork is all set for him when he gets to Palo Alto. It makes Eduardo nervous, the way Mark is surrounded by all these tops, these people who want to use him and take advantage of this amazing, fragile thing he's created. They all want a piece of it, and having a piece of it means having a piece of Mark, too.

Eduardo signs the papers, because he knows that this is important to Mark, and it's a big step, an important one. Facebook has capital. It has investors. And Eduardo is right here to see it all happen, at least for now.

He sits in the new offices, white walls and hastily arranged desks, already beginning to hum with activity.

He sits with Mark in the center of it, near Mark's desk, and every once in a while, some poor intern will come up and start asking Mark questions, nervous and fidgety. It makes Eduardo feel old. "Remember the algorithm on the window?" Eduardo asks. Everything is moving so fast, and this is big, so big Eduardo feels bowled over by it. He has to hold onto the things that they have, the things that they share. Eduardo was there when it started. He remembers that. He wants Mark to remember that too.

"Yeah," Mark says. He's almost smiling when Eduardo kisses him, and his lips are soft, warm. It feels like Eduardo hasn't had this for forever, the bright spark of Mark's happiness. Mark's been overworked and stressed out for ages, and this is the first time Eduardo's seen him let himself just... stop and enjoy it. He likes Mark better this way, letting himself slouch, the corner of his mouth tilting upwards, content in a way he hasn't been for a while.

After Mark's done with his work for the day, they go back to Mark's place, to his tiny one-bedroom with a bed that's little more than a mattress shoved into the corner of the room.
